A successful capture and rendering of the Aurora Borealis on an evening’s walk a month ago – surprised to find that my Olympus camera is this forgiving with a handheld shot – ISO 8000, f/4 and 1/3 of a second.

Words to Inspire / Consider – “The more ridiculous you look while taking a photo, the better that photo will probably be. Photographers can’t be afraid to get into strange and awkward positions to get the shot they’re after.” — Pei Ketron

Listening to: Junip’s ‘Line of Fire,’ The Tragically Hip’s ‘Poets’ and ‘Scared’ and Springsteen’s ‘American Skin (41 Shots)’ done by Jen Chapin & Rosetta Trio.

  1. Wow! These are spectacular!!! I’m jealous that you have this to see in person 🙂 Have a Merry Christmas and a splendid New Year!

    • Thanks, Reggie.

Surprisingly, on this -44C night, I am, perhaps, a little jealous of you, too.

Merry Christmas – and I like your idea of staying blessed … that’s my wish for you in 2018.

      🙂

  2. On my bucket list to see the lights one day. Amazing, I am always pleased by the images I can now get using my Pentax DSLR. such a step up from my previous Canon baby camera.

    • The Aurora Borealis is about northern latitudes – here in High Level we’re at latitude 58; at Yellowknife in our Northwest Territories you’d be at latitude 62; and, in Iceland, you’d be at latitude 66. In Yellowknife and Iceland the Aurora often streams colourfully across the sky from one horizon to its opposite horizon. Montreal’s Roxboro was my home in the early sixties – I was last in Montreal in 1988. I trust you will have been out to Quebec City and to Old Quebec (400 years old). I’m liking your Montreal images – ‘Old and new together,’ ‘Light’ and ‘Street scene’ (its movement, colour and depths). Liking also the Canada Grain car with graffiti – if you’re traveling to Toronto, it won’t be too long until you’re out to Vancouver and Edmonton. Your Pentax is not holding you back. Good.
