'It is not what you look at that matters. It's what you see.' – Henry David Thoreau
Sunday, morning sun illuminates an autumn backdrop for antlers of moose and deer, trophies located on the roof of the neighbor’s shed next door, a collection of shape, colour and texture.
Listening to – The Candid Frame and an interview with Dan Steinhardt, an Epson printer marketer as amateur photographer; key ideas ‘in-between meeting shots’ and Malcolm Gladwell’s conception of 10,000 hours working one toward becoming an expert in something. Jay Maisel’s assertion of doing the one-eighty because that is where you might find the better shot – the idea is look around from your vantage point for what else is going on.
Quote to Inspire – “I love the people I photograph. I mean, they’re my friends. I’ve never met most of them or I don’t know them at all, yet through my images I live with them.” – Bruce Gilden

'Why be reliant upon secular media sources, literary works penned by atheists, and embittered hearsay to inform your views on religiosity, or worse still to bring about the lack thereof, isn't that as sensible as asking directions to KFC from Ronald McDonald?' ―T. C. M

Vision, and what is behind our eyes, for me that makes the shot – changes it from a picture of scenery, to a landscape story. To a feast we can gorge on.
Jim
Jim … you hint perhaps towards Hemingway and A Moveable Feast; the story of how one is and what one does within mountains is quite different from stepping out onto a vista. You hint toward Martin Buber and the transformation of relationship that moves from object within environment to the other (even one’s environment) engaged with. Ansel Adams was big on the idea of being physically active within one’s environment as key element producing the exceptional photo.
I’m with you … unfortunately, I was also at conference and not too far from the vista’d view.
😉
Awesome!
